Privacy Policy

What personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, and your rights.

Last updated: 20 October 2026

The short version

1. Who we are

TEFL Wonderland – Brilliant Minds (“we”, “us”) is responsible for the personal information collected through our website and services. We also trade as Brilliant Minds, Brilliant Minds Learning and TEFL Wonderland. Our office is at 440 Laurier Ave. W., Suite 200, Ottawa, Ontario K1R 7X6, Canada.

We handle personal information in line with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Where the European Union or United Kingdom General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies to you, we follow it too.

2. What we collect

  • Contact and identity details: your name, email, phone or WhatsApp number, country and province or state.
  • Order details: what you bought, when, and how much you paid. Payments are handled by Stripe and PayPal; we never see or store your full card number.
  • Student details: for English courses, exams, competitions and the camp, the student’s name, date of birth, grade and school, entered by a parent or guardian at checkout. For INVOPRENEUR teams, the team name and teammates’ names.
  • Learning records: course progress, assignments, grades, certificates and communications with tutors.
  • Form messages: what you send us through advice, proposal, pre-registration, contact and question forms.
  • Proof of eligibility, when needed: identification, a photo or proof of English level.
  • Technical information: your IP address, browser, device and how you use our website, collected through cookies (see our Cookie Policy).
  • We do not ask for sensitive information about race, religion, health or sexual orientation. If you share health information to ask for a reasonable adjustment, we use it only for that request.

3. How we use it

  • To process orders and payments, and send confirmations and receipts.
  • To give you access to courses, deliver sessions, mark work and issue and verify certificates.
  • To register candidates with awarding organisations and run exams, competitions and the camp.
  • To answer your questions and send proposals you ask for.
  • To keep our website secure, prevent fraud and malpractice, and meet legal and accounting obligations.
  • To improve our courses and website, using information that is combined or anonymised where possible.
  • To send news and offers if you agree to receive them. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

4. Why we are allowed to use it

We use your information because you have given consent, because we need it to provide what you bought (the contract between us), because the law requires it (for example, tax records), or because we have a legitimate interest in running and improving our services in ways you would reasonably expect. You can withdraw consent at any time; this does not affect what we did before.

5. Children's information

We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 18 for purchases. A parent or guardian places orders and provides the student’s details, and agrees to this policy on the student’s behalf. Parents and guardians can ask to see, correct or delete their child’s information at any time.

6. Who we share it with

  • Payment providers: Stripe and PayPal, to take payments securely.
  • Hosting and website services: our web host, WooCommerce (which runs our checkout on our own website) and email providers.
  • Our learning platform: learn.teflwonderland.com, where courses are delivered.
  • Awarding organisations and partners: such as Gatehouse Awards and CertVera, when you take a qualification, exam or award, and partner schools for Teach Abroad placements.
  • Widgets on our pages: Elfsight (reviews), Google Maps (our office map), Calendly (call booking) and an accessibility toolbar. These may collect technical information when they load.
  • Authorities, when the law requires it.
  • We never sell your personal information.

7. International transfers

Some of the services we use store or process information outside Canada, for example in the United States or the European Union. When this happens, we choose providers that protect personal information to a comparable standard, and your information may be subject to the laws of those countries.

8. How long we keep it

  • Order and accounting records: as long as Canadian tax law requires, generally six years.
  • Certificate records: for as long as certificates may need to be verified.
  • Learning records and form messages: for as long as needed to provide the service and handle any questions, appeals or complaints, then deleted or anonymised.
  • Anonymised information, which no longer identifies you, may be kept for research and course improvement.

9. How we protect it

We use secure servers, encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, password protection, regular backups and confidentiality agreements with staff and contractors. No system is completely secure, so if a breach puts you at real risk of significant harm, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

10. Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, receive a copy, limit how we use it, withdraw consent or ask us to delete it, where the law allows. Email support@teflwonderland.com with the subject “Privacy request”. We may ask you to confirm your identity, and we reply within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or your local data protection authority if GDPR applies to you.

12. Changes to this policy

We review this policy at least once a year and update it when our services change. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change matters to you, we will tell you by email.
